Edo Machiya Revival · 21st century · Built ~2005

This interior space is a modern recreation of an Edo-period Japanese townscape (machiya), featuring replica merchant storefronts with dark timber lattice facades, low-pitched tiled eave canopies, and hanging chōchin paper lanterns. Large indigo noren curtains bearing mon crests are suspended from the steel-trussed ceiling of the contemporary enclosing hall, blending traditional decorative elements with a modern exhibition or food-hall structure. The overall design evokes the streetscape of a late Edo or Meiji-era shitamachi commercial district within a purpose-built tourist or cultural facility.
