The complex features characteristic multi-tiered, sweeping hip-and-gable roofs clad in dark grey ceramic tiles with upturned eaves, supported by red-painted wooden columns and bracketing systems. The buildings are arranged in a hierarchical axial layout with whitewashed stone-base walls and large open courtyards typical of Korean royal palace architecture. The bold red and green dancheong paintwork on the structural timbers and the stone-paved ceremonial plaza reflect the formal grandeur of Joseon-era palatial design.
