This is the Nio-mon (Deva Gate) of Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto, featuring the classic Wayo Buddhist architectural style with vivid vermilion-lacquered columns and richly polychromed bracket complexes (tokyō). The structure displays a two-tiered irimoya (hip-and-gable) roof of dark ceramic tiles crowned by a sorin finial, characteristic of Japanese Buddhist gate architecture. Stone lanterns and a broad ceremonial staircase lead up to the gate, framed by a white-railed approach typical of major temple precincts.
